Our founder, Anne Woods, is an educator and author. She has recently written a novel entitled “Being Punky” largely based on events and themes in her own life. Her passion is to help others, especially young women make smart choices in their lives when there is a fork in the road.

Anne spent much of her adulthood overcoming low self-esteem, addiction and the sadness and guilt that came from giving up her baby son for adoption. As a result of her life experiences, she has developed a great empathy for today’s youth and the parents who guide them. She believes that our fantasy-based, profit-driven culture is robbing increasingly younger girls of the chance to develop any kind of self-worth or respect. This lack of awareness often compels girls to look for love in all the wrong places, putting them at risk for pregnancy, disease and a host of other problems.

Her life challenges have created a person with great spirit, humor and tenacity. Ms. Woods has been a freelance writer for radio, newspapers and magazines, an editor for computer software manuals and a public relations officer. She has also worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation both as a production assistant for radio and as a story consultant/researcher for a situation comedy.

Anne also wrote a detailed, highly acclaimed ten-part series on pregnancy entitled “Great Beginnings” published in the Toronto Star. It was so well received that readers were asking when the book would be available. It took a while but now the eBook “Pregnancy Proof Your Daughter” is available.

As the fifth oldest in a family of twelve, she helped care for her younger siblings, including her developmentally disabled brother Danny. Anne learned much about developing new ways of communicating with mentally challenged children and adults, the importance of being a primary care giver (how to take care of your charge and yourself) and how much there is to learn about love and empathy from those many would count as a burden, not a gift.

When she is not writing, Anne is a teacher of developmentally delayed students in Toronto, Canada.

As our network expands, Anne and other educators will offer insightful, topical materials that will help in current, troubled situations. The constant striving for enlightenment promises to make the Wise Voices Network a voice of reason in an increasingly insane world.
